Welcome!.. an update on how we got here.

My name is Dan (not to be confused later with Danny).  Last year, I joined a league with some friends from the next town over and a couple of my college buddies.  My season ended very early, as in this 2 QB league I drafted Brett Favre and Kevin Kolb as my starters.  As hard as I tried to piece it together all season, I ended up in 9th out of 12 teams.

The champion the year before I joined was the Kummissioner himself, who most of the time will be referred to as Kum, a play on his last name.  Last year, it became a heated competition as the league became for money and it was decided that this would be a keeper league.  Danny took home the title, as well as MVP honors in the Turkey Bowl.

This year, we are taking it up another notch.  The whole league, minus Ed, who has been financially supported by Danny so far in this process, chipped in for a trophy.  The Kumbardi Trophy has the two past champions etched into it, and with permission from the last two winners to show their full names, I'll post a picture of it later.

Sitting in the living room in the Kum's house, we drafted our teams. Draft order had been determined by a game of Vodka Roulette, and one by one the picks went up on the draft board (seen to the left with a few names edited out).  QB's flew off quick, with 10 taken in the first two rounds.  In another stroke of drafting brilliance on my part, I took Peyton Manning in front of Drew Brees.  It now looks like he will miss at least a month of the season...great.

There were a lot of keepers from last year, but the big ones were Jamaal Charles for a 2nd round pick (Frank), Vick for a 13th rounder (also Frank), Arian Foster for an 8th round pick (Me, and my only highlight from last season), and Kum's keepers of Peyton Hillis (12th round pick) and LaGarrette Blount (13th).

Then there was the greatness that seems to come with Ed drafting.  It began with his 3rd round pick of Plaxico Burress (who he could have easily waited at least 4 rounds for), and continued all the way through the 11th round pick of Chicago Tight End Kellen Davis, sending us all looking through our draft sheets and fantasy football magazines to figure out who he was.  It really should be noted that Davis was later dropped for the undrafted Chris Cooley.

Since the draft there has been a lot of trade talk, but only a few have gone down.  Thom has improved his team through Ed and Rich, but is still not sitting on what looks to be a top team.  I have been fending off his advances with Kerry Collins, as I'm hoping Peyton Manning comes back before the bye weeks hit my QBs, which right now stand as Kyle Orton and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Week 1 of this years season starts tomorrow night with the Saints going up to Green Bay to face off with the Packers.  As for me, I'll be going to la casa de Frank in order to watch my Saints D hopefully shut down the passing attack of Kum's Aaron Rodgers (who I face in Week 1).  Good luck to everyone else in the league...on not choking on my teams dust.
